These two grey butcher birds had a nest in the midst of possum
central. A large black bird tried to approach their nest one day, and
the two butcher birds took turns dive-bombing it to chase it away.
They might have subsequently decided to find a new location for a
nest.
GK tried feeding them various things and the only thing they
wanted to eat was cheese. One of them has learned to catch tiny
pieces of it in the air when thrown. We later read that calcium is
important for beak, feather and egg development. We don't know how
good cheese is for the digestive system of the birds, and have
decided to hold off on feeding these birds until we find out.
They come right up to the house, and announce their presence
loudly. They don't seem overly shy, although one, possibly the
female, seems to be more shy than the other.
