sea lions at seal bay

on my website i usually like to use photos i've taken, but at kangaroo island gk took most of the photos, so i've used mostly photos that he's taken. (when i use gk's photos, i often crop and process them a bit so that i've made some kind of contribution. generally, though, i think he takes better photos than i do.) also.. all of the photos on this page, except i think the one of the echidna, were taken with the zoom on the new video camera.

sea lions at seal bay

it was extremely windy here at seal bay on this particular day. on the ferry from the mainland to kangaroo island, it seemed that the majority of people became seasick.

my favourite sea lion

this was my favourite sea lion to watch. i liked her expressions, movements, gentleness, grace.

sea lion

another cute sea lion. this one looks very healthy. she has just been in the sea for about 3 days, diving and eating as much as possible. the more they're able to eat, the more likely they are to survive. after all that activity, they lie on the beach for a few days conserving energy, then go back out again.

echidna

an echidna - these odd little creatures turn their backs to predators and just sink or burrow into the sand, hoping that their spikyness will protect them. gk convinced me to pet this one, although i was nervous that i was scaring the poor thing. i tried to think of what it reminded me of, and the best i could come up with was dog's toenails. gk said the spikes were like quills, and i think he was closer.

wallaby

we saw a lot of wallabies, and several large kangaroos as well.
