ant hills

ant hills like these appeared along the highway to tennant creek. i thought they looked like sculptures, or like sorrowing figures in some sort of cemetery, heads bowed, wearing hooded cloaks..

wandering camel

i was extremely down when we were driving along.. and then all of a sudden we spotted a camel just wandering around at the side of the highway. it was such an unexpected thing, and it cheered me up a great deal. the camel was friendly, and gk fed it some carrots. it was difficult to get the camel to stand still, and it kept coming toward the camera.. which sort of explains this weird shot that makes the head look so big in comparison to the body. (it was a normal-sized camel, although it looks quite small here.)

it was very hot in tennant creek, with temps often in the 36-40 C range. i didn't really feel the heat much, but that might have had something to do with anemia. the town itself was fairly desolate. the aborigines seemed pretty miserable, and the majority of the businesses had closed down, were all boarded up.
